Whether it\u2019s on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dementiauk.org\/information-and-support\/how-we-can-support-you\/admiral-nurse-dementia-helpline\/\">our Helpline<\/a>, through <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dementiauk.org\/information-and-support\/how-we-can-support-you\/book-a-virtual-appointment\/\">virtual<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dementiauk.org\/information-and-support\/how-we-can-support-you\/admiral-nurse-clinics\/nationwide\/\">face-to-face clinic <\/a>appointments or in the community, our nurses give families affected by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dementiauk.org\/information-and-support\/about-dementia\/what-is-dementia\/\">dementia<\/a> the much-needed space to talk to someone who understands. Joseph had vascular dementia and was known affectionately as \u201cAdmiral Joe\u201d because of his love of sailing.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"hmd-module hmd-module-content hmd-module-topspacing--none hmd-module-bottomspacing--none hmd-module-background--white\">\n<div class=\"hmd-module-content-columns\">\n<div class=\"row hmd-single-column\">\n<div class=\"col-xs-12\">\n<div class=\"hmd-submodules\">\n<div class=\"hmd-submodule hmd-submodule-wysiwyg hmd-submodule-topspacing--none hmd-submodule-bottomspacing--none\">\n<div class=\"hmd-submodule-wysiwyg-content hmd-module-wysiwyg\">\n<h3>How can an Admiral Nurse help me?<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>If <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dementiauk.org\/information-and-support\/living-with-dementia\/tips-for-communication\/\">communication<\/a> gets hard, we\u2019re on hand with\u00a0skills and techniques\u00a0to help you stay connected to the person you love<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>If someone with dementia is showing signs of fear or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dementiauk.org\/information-and-support\/health-advice\/coping-with-distress\/\">distress<\/a>, we\u2019ll work with you to find the\u00a0best ways of preventing or managing this<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>If you want some guidance on the \u202f<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dementiauk.org\/information-and-support\/financial-legal\/\">financial benefit<\/a>s \u202fthat you may be able to claim, we can talk this through with you and provide details of services and organisations that can support you<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>If your family is struggling to cope, we\u2019ll be there to help you get your loved one the best possible additional care and support<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>If you have questions you can\u2019t get answered we\u2019ll take the time to really understand the problem, and give you the expert support you need to tackle it<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Admiral Nurses: a lifeline for families<\/h3>\n<p>Dementia can be devastating for the whole family. Too often, people are left to cope alone with ever-changing and relentless challenges. Families often have to take on caring responsibilities that push them to their physical, emotional and financial limits.
